Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some entrants can get confused. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in nearly all poker games.
The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.
While it seems difficult at first, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an amazing range of betting options and because you have several players trying for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
